110. [NOSTRADAMUS]. Les Prophéties de M. Michel Nostradamus, - Lot 110
110. [NOSTRADAMUS]. Les Prophéties de M. Michel Nostradamus, médecin du Roy Charles IX & l'un des plus excellens astronomes qui furent iamais. Lyon, s.é, 1568 (Paris, 1649). 63 f., [1] f., 56 f., [15] p., half brown basane with smooth spine (19th century). Woodcut depicting Nostradamus on the title page. Dorbon tells us that, "Although bearing the mention Lyon 1568 this edition, moreover very rare, is a counterfeit executed in Paris in 1649 for the account of enemies of Cardinal Mazarin" Other bibliographers, including Klinckowström and Benazra, put it in the Troyes printings. Its main interest is political: by introducing two false quatrains in the seventh centurie, 42 and 43, predicting the fall of the "Nirazam Cicilien", i.e. of Mazarin, the cardinal's enemies used this subterfuge to harm his destiny. Binding worn, paper loss on title page with repair and no damage to text, one leaf shuffling, tiny marginal bite on first few leaves with slight damage to one character, small paper loss on upper corner of page 26, clumsy repairs on one leaf, foxing, fanciful pagination, a few short margin leaves. (Chomarat, 105; Dorbon, 6360; Benazra, 38).
