The letters are addressed to Mr. Anatole Loquin, musicographer and author of numerous theoretical works on music and history. He ardently defended the thesis identifying the Masque de fer with Molière, a thesis to which he devoted several works.
He was received as a member of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Bordeaux in 1869 and was also its President in 1897.
