Paris, Charles Gosselin & Furne, 1836. 2 volumes in-8, bound in eggplant basane, smooth spine decorated. All edges gilt.E.O. Free of foxing. Paper quite white, which is rare. Spine sunned. Covers rubbed. (Talvart et Place, XI, 34, 19A) - BALZAC (Honoré de). Mercadet, comedy in three acts and prose. Paris, Librairie théâtrale, 1851. In-12, 111 p., red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head (Binding beginning of XXth century).Posthumous first edition of this play with title page preserved. Balzac had written it between 1838 and 1840, Adolphe d'Ennery reworked it for the Théâtre du gymnase where it was presented in 1851. Provenance: Hippolyte Joseph Rubin de La Grimaudière (1835-1920) at the castle of La Hamonay, attested by his armorial and engraved bookplate, glued to the reverse of the cover. Freckles, tiny stains on the spine. (Talvart & Place, I, 166, 84a).
