First abbot, then military, then jurist, François Gayot de Pitaval (1673-1743) collected the accounts of remarkable trials: Martin Guerre (volume I), the affair of the poisons (volume I), the demons of Loudun (volume II) or the assassination of the Marquise of Ganges (in volume V). Bindings slightly rubbed with small leather chips, some worn headpieces, worn corners, missing title and tome pieces, bent cover in volume III, marginal worm bite at the bottom of some leaves in volume IX, other minor defects. Attached : [ESTIENNE (Robert)]. Causes amusantes et connues. Berlin (Paris), s.é., 1769-1770. 2 vol. in-12, marbled tan stockings, smooth spine decorated. Picturesque causes such as the claim of a blind man against his wife, the affair of the donkey of Vanvres, the memoir in favor of the Dindons, etc., illustrated with 9 anonymous plates. Bindings rubbed, corners dulled, other defects, overall fair condition.
