102. SCHÜTZ (Christian Georg, ill.) & MORA (José Joaquín). V - Lot 102
102. SCHÜTZ (Christian Georg, ill.) & MORA (José Joaquín). Viage pintoresco por las orillas del Rin, desde Maguncia hasta colonia. London, R. Ackermann, 1826. In-folio, 8 p., 24 pl., brown half calf, smooth spine, title-piece glued to the center of the upper board. Remarkable romantic edition realized for the then simmering Ibero-American market. The nascent romantic aspiration of the Creole descendants, whose starting point was the return from Europe of the Argentine Esteban Echeverría in 1830, explains the unusual constitution of a luxurious German work edited in England for distribution via Mexico. The 24 compositions by the German landscape painter Christian Georg Schütz the younger (1758-1823) are superbly executed in aquatint by the British Thomas Sutherland (1785-1838). Hinge broken, upper board almost detached, some foxing and other minor defects.
