275. FOURNIER (Louis Édouard, ill.) & SAMAIN (Albert). Conte - Lot 275
275. FOURNIER (Louis Édouard, ill.) & SAMAIN (Albert). Contes. Paris, E. Goubert, 1908. In sheets, under double cover, folder and case, 26 x 34 cm. Small edition limited to 130 copies and this one being a special edition of 20 copies not foreseen in the justification, reprinted on Arches vellum watermarked with the publisher's figure, and reserved for the publisher, the doctor, geologist and modern bibliophile Émile Goubert (1852-1916), who affixed his signature under the special justification. His rich library was dispersed at auction in June 1917; several works by Albert Samain are found here reprinted. The tales are illustrated with beautiful etchings by the painter and mosaicist Louis Édouard Fournier (1857-1917) engraved by Abel Jamas (1862-1940): Hyalis, Rovère and Angisèle, Divine Bontemps and Xanthis, this last text outlining the hatreds and loves of trinkets in bronze, porcelain or marble living their dramas under the glass of a cabinet of curiosity. Case slightly damaged. Not very common.
