Limited edition of 1275 copies, one of the 25 first copies on Rives containing an original drawing signed by the artist and a suite of hors-texte. The text of Edouard Corbière (1793-1875) is illustrated with compositions of Joë Hamman in the text and out of text full page or on double page, put in color with stencil. Jean Hamman (1883-1974), known as Joë Hamman, is an illustrator, director and actor considered as one of the creators of the French western. The preface is by Pierre Mac-Orlan. Le négrier, first published in 1832, is considered the first great French maritime novel. A logbook of a privateer who became a slave trader on the African coast, the novel contains many truths.
