6. AUSONE. [Omnia Opera. Ad haec, Symmachi et Pontii Paulini - Lot 6
6. AUSONE. [Omnia Opera. Bordeaux, S. Millanges, 1580. ...] In-4, [17] f., [132] f., [1] p. (errata), [239] f.; vellum with flap, handwritten title on spine. Copy without its title page but complete with its 2 plates which are sometimes missing (the Gallien palace and the pillars of Tutela). This beautiful edition by Simon Millanges is moreover illustrated with several engravings in the text including a full page view of Bordeaux. Edition identified by the colophon and conforming to the collation of Adams, although Desgraves proposes another edition of Ausone at this date. Provenance: Alexandre Lesdos (1813-1865) a merchant in Cherbourg, local historian and member of several learned societies, attested by his wet stamp in the lower margin of the first leaf. He died in Bordeaux. Traces of missing laces, missing title page, missing text on the top 2 lines of the 3rd leaf due to a paper defect found on 3 other leaves without loss of text, other minor defects. (Adams, 2282).
