52. DU CANGE (Charles Du Fresne, lord). Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae latinitatis. Paris, L. Billaine, 1678. 2 vols. in-folio, brown basane with arms, spines with ornate nerves. Volumes II and III of the famous glossary of Charles du Fresne du Cange (1610-1688) in which he gives the primary meaning of Latin words, interprets foreign terms naturalized in Latin and illustrates with numerous examples related to theology, jurisprudence, medieval customs, public or private life, church rites and court etiquette, civil, ecclesiastical or military dignities, etc. Provenance: Binding with the arms of François Dugué de Bagnols, treasurer of finances in Lyon, master of requests in 1643, then ordinary adviser to the king, intendant of justice, police and finances in Normandy, in 1666, in the province of Dauphiné, Lyonnais, Forez, Beaujolais. Large gilt iron (OHR, 335-1) in the center of each of the boards and small gilt iron (OHR, 335-2) in the caissons. Bindings damaged with numerous leather tears, offered as is for the arms.
