76. [LA BRUYÈRE (Jean de). The Characters of Theophrastus translated from the Greek, with the Characters or Manners of this century. Ninth edition, revised & corrected. Paris, E. Michallet, 1696. In-12, [16] f., 52 p., 662 p., xliv, [3] f., caramel calf, spine with ornamented faux-nerves, double fillet on the boards, gilt edges (19th century binding). Last original edition corrected by La Bruyère, who died during the printing. A copy with all the boxes that La Bruyère required a few days before his death, indicated by Tchemerzine. A beautiful copy, entirely washed and carefully bound. Binding very slightly rubbed in places with a tear in one cut, other defects are insignificant. (Tchemerzine, VI, 326).
Attached : MURET (Marc-Antoine). Epistolæ hymni sacri, et poemata omnia. Strasbourg, L. Zetznere. 1622. Fort in-16, 590 p., 320 p., brown half calf, with corners, spine with nerves. Binding rubbed with slight tears, 6 leaves with old marginal repairs, a tiny stain on a few leaves, other minor defects.
