Uncommon work of Louis de Lacaze (1703-1765) physiologist particularly known for his introspective methods and for having maintained that the belly is the seat of pathologies linked to emotions. The field of investigation of this man of science is wide: one will also find in this work a treaty of happiness as an art of living, as well as a speech on the nature of the political power and the necessary submission to this one following Locke.
Small lack of leather to the binding, missing the title page, one endpaper shaken, other minor defects.
(Dechambre, I, 18).
Attached: PRÉVILLE (Lavache de). An easy method for preserving health until extreme old age, based on the laws of animal oeconomy, and the practical observations of the best doctors, both ancient and modern. Paris, Prault, 1752. In-12, viii, 509 p., [9] p., fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated.
A curious treatise supposedly translated from English which has the particularity of devoting a long section to the properties on human health of 105 foods used in gastronomy, including coffee and chocolate.
Binding slightly rubbed, corners dulled, tear without missing and creasing on the last page of the preface, halo on the title page, worm gallery going on the text on a third of the work.
