144 QUICHERAT (Jules). Procès de condamnation et de réhabili - Lot 144
144 QUICHERAT (Jules). Procès de condamnation et de réhabilitation de Jeanne d'Arc, dite la pucelle. Paris, J. Renouard, 1841-1849. 5 volumes, large in-8, bound in half black basane, smooth spine decorated with golden fillets. The renewed interest in Joan of Arc during the 19th century owes much to the work of Quicherat who made her condemnation trial accessible to all. Until then, the consultation of authentic acts was very difficult and reserved for Latin scholars. It was the Société de l'Histoire de France that decided to entrust this mission to Jules Quicherat, a young archivist from the Ecole des Chartes. The first volume would have been printed in 750 copies and each volume having appeared separately, over the years, it is difficult to have a complete copy. Binding worn, small accidents to the headpieces. Some foxing. Attached : OURCEL (Raymond, trans. annotations by) & RIQUET (Michel, preface). Le procès de condamnation de Jeanne d'Arc. Paris, Club du meilleur livre, 1953. Edition at 6000 copies.
