164. [Binding]. RACINE (Jean). Works of Jean Racine. Paris, P. Didot l'ainé, 1813. 5 vol. in-8 on fine paper (laid paper). Binding of the period signed in long-grained green morocco. Spine decorated with a fine and rich gilding work. Boards framed with a set of five gilt fillets, each ending in arabesques of four large gilt fleurons placed in spandrels. In the center of the plates, a large cold diamond decorated with lines and flowers, a decoration so pure and modern that it evokes the art-deco. At each corner of the rhombus is placed a small golden iron. Heads and cups guilloche, interior lace, all edges gilt (Thouvenin). Binding signed by Joseph Thouvenin the elder. Edition printed on fine paper published in the Collection des meilleurs ouvrages de la langue française, dedicated to the amateurs of the typographic art. Some light rubbing on spines or corners, some foxing.
