208. KEATE (George). Relation of the Pelew Islands situated in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Paris, Le Jay & Maradan, 1788. In-4, xiv, [1] f., 384 p., blond calf, spine decorated, gilt border, gilt edges. First edition of the French translation revised by the comte de Mirabeau, published the same year as the original in English, and illustrated with a portrait of Captain Henri Wilson (whose ship the Antelope was wrecked in Palau) on the frontispiece, a large folding map of the Pelew Islands (Palau in the Carolinas). and 15 hors-texte plates, some folded, reproducing landscapes, portraits of natives, native utensils and artifacts, etc. Handwritten bookplate on the flyleaf, A. de Grateloup. Binding a little rubbed, with spotting, one corner dulled, accident to the headpieces, marginal halos and foxing. (Chadenat, 1632).
