264. [Pious images of the 18th century]. Set of 2 pious images on parchment (vellum), engravings enhanced in color by hand.
- Saint Rosalia carrying a bouquet and a crucifix, with Palermo in the background. Engraving signed Anna Maria.
- Salvator Mundi. Portrait of Jesus in close-up in an oval frame, surrounded by an important vegetal decoration. Two details: as "Salvator Mundi", Jesus should be represented blessing with one hand and carrying an orb with the other, which is not the case; in religious iconography Jesus is mainly represented as an infant, a very young child or a young man. Rarely is he depicted as a child of about ten years old, as in this image. This engraving is watercolored and enhanced with gold. It is signed A. Possemier. Adrian Possemiers, father and son, registered in the guild of Saint-Luc, in Antwerp, were copper engravers and print dealers at the end of the 17th century.
Both images have Latin indications on the back. They were given as awards to schoolchildren in 1778 and 1779.
