299. STOERK (Jean). Bordeaux and its wines, album of twenty- - Lot 299
299. STOERK (Jean). Bordeaux and its wines, album of twenty-five photographs with text in French, German & English, completed by a table of the classification of the great wines of the Gironde. Bordeaux, Chaumas, 1868. Oblong album (32 x 25 cm), romantic binding in black chagrined basane with smooth spine with cold ornaments and gilt title, gilt edges, 58p., 25 photos. Album edited by the photographer Jean Stoerk, originally from Württemberg and who settled in the Tourny district and then in the Chartrons in Bordeaux from 1870. One year after the publication of Alfred Danflou's famous photographic album (1867), Jean Stoerk follows in his footsteps with this more confidential album, of which there are relatively few copies. The album contains 25 albumen prints (10 x 15 cm) glued in a red frame, the trilingual text facing: 6 views of Bordeaux, views of Pauillac, Saint-Julien, Saint-Emilion, Barsac, view of Sauternes, chateaux Lafite, Margaux, Latour, Haut-Brion, Gruaud-Larose, Cos-D'estournel, Issan, Lagrange, Latour de Carnet, Pontet-Canet, Ludon, Lamarque and Yquem. Binding rubbed, traces on the moiré endpapers, weak stitching, other minor defects. (Vicaire, 105).
