306. VERGEZ (Eugène). Castles of Blayais. Set of 4 original - Lot 306
306. VERGEZ (Eugène). Castles of Blayais. Set of 4 original pencil drawings, unsigned, attributed to the painter Eugène Vergez (1848-1926) and having been executed from life to serve for the illustration of Bordeaux and its wines by Édouard Féret, the famous guide Cocks & Féret - Château Charron à Blaye, M. Flandray. s.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 31 x 20 cm. This view from the wooded pastures of the property was used for statistics but the engraving is sketchy: the engraver added a reclining man and his dog in the foreground to brighten the scene. Some traces, good condition. - Château Charron in St Martin, M. Flandray. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 29.5 x 21.5 cm. This other view from the wooded pastures of the property is the one chosen for publication in the guide. The execution is remarkably careful, the engraver has reproduced it faithfully, positioning each cow in the place where the artist sketched them, except that one of them is grazing in the other direction. Slight marginal marks. - Château Perenne in Saint-Genès, M. Arnaud. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). This view from the grounds of the property has been used, the engraver has animated the composition with a horse-drawn carriage on the road in the foreground. Nice condition. - Château Saugeron in Blaye, M. Ollière. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 31 x 23 cm. This view of Saugeron castle was published, the engraver remained faithful to the model. Traces and small marginal tears.
