Composite collection gathering uncommon tir-à-part speeches and other writings of Jean-Baptiste Sylvère Gaye, viscount de Martignac (1778-1832). A royalist from Bordeaux, he managed to protect the Duchess of Angoulême who had taken refuge in Bordeaux during the Hundred Days. Elected deputy, then appointed State Councillor, then Minister of the Interior, his political ascension was continuous and Charles X made him viscount. His liberal positions were attacked by the left and the right, until his government fell and he was succeeded by the Prince of Polignac.
