(Crack top left, small accidents and missing parts) On the back, two handwritten labels: - "Vernis Martin tableau ayant appartenant au Marquis de Dampierre en 1856 (Paris)" - This small painting on wood panel, which must once have served as the top of a box or casket, was painted as a general background for the landscape, using Vernis Martin paint (...) This painting had taken its place in the Cabinet of General Comte de Bastard, my cousin-germain, who died in 1884, from whom it came to me. As the inscription above indicates, my cousin must have inherited it from the Marquis de Dampierre (...) April 1896 Comte de Bastard".
