VERGEZ (Eugène). Châteaux du Blayais. Set of 4 original, uns - Lot 499
VERGEZ (Eugène). Châteaux du Blayais. Set of 4 original, unsigned pencil drawings attributed to the painter Eugène Vergez (1848-1926) and executed from life to illustrate Bordeaux et ses vins by Édouard Féret, the famous Cocks & Féret guide - Château Charron à Blaye, M. Flandray. s.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 31 x 20 cm. This view from the property's wooded pastures was used for Statistics, but the engraving is sketchy: the engraver added a reclining man and his dog in the foreground to brighten up the scene. A few marks, good condition. - Château Charron à St Martin, M. Flandray. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 29.5 x 21.5 cm. This other view from the property's wooded pastures is the one chosen for publication in the guide. Remarkably well executed, the engraver has reproduced it faithfully, positioning each cow where the artist sketched them, except that one is grazing in the opposite direction. Slight marginal marks. - Château Perenne in Saint-Genès, M. Arnaud. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). This view from the grounds of the property was used, the engraver animated the composition with a horse-drawn carriage on the road in the foreground. Good condition. - Château Saugeron in Blaye, M. Ollière. n.d. (between 1872 and 1890). Original pencil drawing, 31 x 23 cm. This view of Château Saugeron has been published; the engraver has remained faithful to the model. Marginal marks and small tears.
