First edition (without the expected frontispiece). Hegel considered the work to be of the utmost importance, and the archives of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome contain documents relating to the condemnation by the Holy Office of this work full of bizarre ideas on life, death, the generation of beings and planets. Two further volumes will follow. (GDU, XIII, 1266d). Bindings a little damaged, two headpieces missing, small worm bites to leather, corners dull, foxing. Also included: TREMBLEY (Abraham).
