187. BRUNELLESCHI (Umberto, ill.), [PERRAULT (Charles)]. Con - Lot 187
187. BRUNELLESCHI (Umberto, ill.), [PERRAULT (Charles)]. Contes du temps jadis. Paris, Piazza, 1912. In-4, paperback, lined cover, illustrated with 20 color plates. Text and illustrations are framed in blue-gray engraved foliage. Umberto Brunelleschi (1879 - 1949) was an Italian artist, painter and poster designer who worked as an illustrator for leading magazines such as Le Rire, L'Assiette au beurre and La Gazette du Bon Ton. He also designed costumes for the Folies Bergère and Casino de Paris revues, numerous plays and stage costumes for Josephine Baker. But it's his work as illustrator of nearly thirty literary works that makes him so familiar to us today. Copy of the current edition, after 400 copies on Japon. Beautiful illustration in very vivid tones. Endpapers foxed, spine a little tired with small paper loss at head.
