201. DULAC (Edmond, ill.), MAZEM (Hadji, text adaptation). C - Lot 201
201. DULAC (Edmond, ill.), MAZEM (Hadji, text adaptation). Contes des mille et une nuits. Paris, Édition d'Art H. Piazza, s.d. [1907]. In-4, paperback, filled printed cover, illus. with 50 color compositions by Edmond Dulac, mounted on captioned serpents. First edition, undated (1907), containing 6 stories. Limited edition of 1,000 copies, of which only 300 on Japon are numbered. This is one of 700 on unjustified vellum. Edmond Dulac (1882 - 1953), although French by birth, more precisely from Toulouse, made his career as an artist in England, where he obtained British nationality in 1912. His style, infused with fairytale subjects and a dreamlike, intranquil quality, made him one of the greatest artists of the golden age of British illustration in the early 20th century. The spine has been reinforced with a strip of strong paper. (Monod, 8153)
