212. FLINT (Russell, ill.), MALORY (Sir Thomas). Le Morte d' - Lot 212
212. FLINT (Russell, ill.), MALORY (Sir Thomas). Le Morte d'Arthur. The book of King Arthur and of his Noble Knights of the Round Table. London, P. L. Warner, The Medici Society, 1910-1911. 4 volumes in-4, illustrated with numerous colored lithographs, publisher's soft vellum cover, title in gold on spine and front cover, gilt head. Closes with two moss-green grosgrain cloth ties. First edition of the illustration of this work by William Russell Flint (1880 - 1969), limited to 512 copies. One of 500 numbered copies on Riccardi laid paper. Flint was a Scottish painter, illustrator and printmaker, celebrated for the excellence of his watercolors. Some critics criticized him for over-eroticizing his depictions of women, which foreshadowed the pin-ups of the '40s. But few artists of their time were able to combine public and critical success. Some light wetness in margins. Fine copies in fresh vellum bindings, complete with laces.
