217. FLINT. Set of 2 books illustrated by Russell Flint. - Lot 217
217. FLINT. Set of 2 books illustrated by Russell Flint.
- Drawings. London, Collins, 1950. In folio, 188 illustrated pages. Bound in half unbleached cloth, boards covered with monogrammed paper, title page in gray-blue morocco. Edition of 500 numbered copies, signed by the artist. Extensive 30-page introduction, followed by an album of reproductions of drawings and watercolors, and descriptive notes. It's clear that William Russell Flint wields the pen with as much wit as he does the brush or pencil. Amusing or acerbic anecdotes, sound advice for young artists, which will be useful for drawing enthusiasts to get behind the scenes, difficulties specific to the illustrator's profession, etc. The album shows the range of Flint's skills at the peak of his career, including genre scenes, landscapes, nudes, studies and portraits.
Title page a little worn.
- Models of propriety. London, M.Joseph, 1951. In-4, publisher's binding, blue half cloth, boards covered with mimosa yellow cloth, blue title-piece on upper board. Edition of 500 numbered copies. Our copy is hand-numbered and signed by the artist. Fables and historiettes about 16 female models, with assumed names, sketched both with words and pencil. A fine copy.
