225. LEMARIÉ (Henry, ill.), PERRAULT (Charles). Trois contes - Lot 225
225. LEMARIÉ (Henry, ill.), PERRAULT (Charles). Trois contes du temps passé. Paris, J. Porson, 1942-1950. A large in-8 volume, illustrated with numerous color woodcuts, in a signed, tripled and mosaic binding in navy-blue morocco, top board decorated with a castle emerging from the forest in multiple-color morocco mosaics. Spine titled in gold and decorated with a mosaic of flowers. Binding lined with navy blue tabis. On the reverse of the boards, the morocco frame is adorned with a double gilded fillet and small ochre and red mosaic flowers at the corners. Gilt head, felt-lined slipcase (Louppe). Edition of 2000 on Vélin de Rives, one of 1910 copies without suite. Charming collection illustrated with a total of 110 woodcuts by Henry Lemarié printed in color, enriched by the specimen of La Belle au bois dormant printed in black and showing some illustrations of the tale on linewood alone. The text of this specimen, written by the publisher, is highly instructive, describing the eventful history of the work and the unimaginable amount of work required to bring this ambitious editorial achievement to fruition. A fine copy in an attractive signed binding. Spine very slightly faded.
