First edition of the first work illustrated by Kay Nielsen. This series of fairy tales was rewritten by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch.
Covers worn, title damaged, interior very fresh.

Originally published in 1914, this is the second book illustrated entirely by Nielsen, and is recognized as a masterpiece of illustration of the period, heavily influenced by Japonism. The texts come from a collection of Norwegian fairy tales by Asbjornsen and Moe, published in 1841 and first translated into English in 1910.
Spine faded, covers loose. Boards rubbed and slightly soiled. Title page stained, pages 280 and 281 stained, edges stained, stitching a little loose.
