In-8 paperback, filled cover, illus. with gilt fleurons, sequel in black apart in a cardboard folder with paper flaps. Slips into a non-original slipcase. Edition illustrated with 26 color compositions by Russian painter Boris Zworykine (1872-1942), including a title and 15 plates. Zworykin painted church frescoes and icons before becoming an illustrator. The influence of this experience can be felt on every page of this highly baroque book. Vibrant colors, gold, brocade garments, oriental carpets, tapestries embroidered with acanthus leaves and more. One of the 180 first numbered copies on Japon impérial paper, this one of 145 containing a black continuation of the hors-texts. Total edition of 955 copies. A fine copy. Spine slightly oiled.
