289. [Bordeaux]. Reunion of 4 works on this illustrious city - Lot 289
289. [Bordeaux]. Reunion of 4 works on this illustrious city which long resisted Parisian annexation:
- Album de vues de Bordeaux. Paris, F. Sinnet & Frick, s.d (circa 1860). Small oblong album in green percaline, 16 x 12 cm.
The album contains 25 accordion-folded cameo lithographs of views of Bordeaux. Fold broken after the first composition, thus detaching the rest of the booklet.
- Anciens et nouveaux statuts de la ville et cité de Bordeaux. Bordeaux, S. Boé, 1701. In-4, marbled fawn calf, ornate spine. Binding lacerated with lacks, halos and worm spots, average condition.
- DEVIENNE (Dom, Charles-Jean-Baptiste Devienne d'Agneaux, said in religion). History of the city of Bordeaux. Bordeaux, S. de La Court, 1771. In-4, marbled fawn calf, ornate spine. First volume only, the only one published in the 18th century. Binding very damaged and several defects still present.
- GUILHE (Henri-Charles). Études sur l'histoire de Bordeaux, de l'Aquitaine et de la Guienne depuis les Celtes jusqu'à la première Révolution française en 1789. Bordeaux, Lavigne jeune, 1835. Large in-8, paperback. Illustrated at the end with a folded map of Bordeaux in 1565. First edition of this Bordeaux history by Henri-Charles Guilhe (1756-1842), professor of general grammar and philosophy at the Gironde Central School and honorary director of the School for the Deaf and Dumb. Bordes de Fortage did not think much of this historical essay, which nevertheless contains some curious elements. Some foxing, fragile spine and other minor defects.
