France - Order of St. Louis, Restoration, enameled gold grand-croix or commander's jewel, the points dome-shaped, the branches edged with white enamel with amaties reserves angled with large chased fleurs-de-lis, the slightly oval centers in two parts present, on the obverse, St. Louis with face in profile to the left crowned, in armor and royal mantle, holding in the right hand a laurel wreath, in the left, a crown of thorns and a veil, encircled by the full legend LUDOVICUS MAGNUS INSTITUIT 1693; on the reverse, a wavy, laurelled sword surrounded by the order's motto BELLICÆ VIRTUTIS PRÆMIUM, chased acanthus leaves, fluted ring, ram's head mark on a lily (hair and small chips to the branches, legends and royal mantle). 70 x 64 mm, weight: 50.3 g France, circa 1819-1830.
