70. LE BLOND (Guillaume). L'Artillerie raisonnée, containing - Lot 70
70. LE BLOND (Guillaume). L'Artillerie raisonnée, containing the description and use of the various firearms, with the principal means used to improve them, the theory and practice of mines and the throwing of bombs, and the essentials of everything that is most interesting about artillery since the invention of gunpowder. Paris, Charl. Ant. Jombert, 1761. In-8, XX-[2]-579-[4] p. 30 folding plates. Marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated (slight traces of use). First edition. Mention " Tome 1 " on each first page of the quire but the preface warns us that "it is inappropriate that one marked Tome I on each leaf of this Treaty. It forms a work absolutely independent of that of the Attack and the Defense of the places, which we will give incessantly, with which it will be sold jointly or separately." (p.xiv). Guillaume Le Blond was a mathematics teacher for the pages of the king's stable, then for the Children of France. Binding rubbed, headbands faded, corners dulled.
