160 [Literature]. Set of 9 19th century books in contemporary bindings including:
- NAVARRE (Marguerite de). L'heptaméron des nouvelles de très haute et très illustre princesse, Marguerite d'Angoulême, reine de Navarre, soeur unique de françois 1er. Paris, Société des bibliophiles françois, 1853-1854. 3 vol. in-8, half fir green morocco with corners. Spine with decorated nerves. Gilt head. Our copy contains a double state frontispiece portrait of the queen, one of which in color, and 5 plates in addition, from other editions. Copy on large paper, numbered and nominative: the copy was printed for M. le baron Frédéric de Janzé. The work contains the list of the members of the society of French bibliophiles including M. de Janzé (assistant member), and Messrs de La Bedoyère, Le Roux de Lincy, de Lignerolles, Mérimée, Pichon, etc. It also contains a large number of addenda, including the inventory of the movable property of the Count of Angouleme and the statements of the officers and servants of the House of François 1er. This collection of short stories with a thread was first published posthumously in 1559. Very white paper.
- LAMARTINE (Alphonse de). Poetic meditations. Paris, Ch. Gosselin, 1823. In-8, illustrated with 6 lithographs. Signed binding in lavaliere brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated with cold and gold, black morocco title-piece, boards decorated with a frame of cold palmettes inside a double black fillet with small gilt fleurons in spandrels. Guilloche cuts and headpieces, marbled edges (Bibolet). Méditations poétiques is the first collection of poems by Alphonse de Lamartine, first published in 1820. Bibolet was an active bookbinder in the early 19th century, a former apprentice of Simier (Flety, 24). Binding slightly rubbed, with some foxing.
- TASSO (Torquato). La Jérusalem délivrée, translated into French verse with the Italian text opposite by Hippolyte Taunay. Paris, Hachette, 1846. 2 vol. in-8 in beautiful romantic binding in the taste of Boutigny, red chagrin. Boards framed with a cold fillet and a double gilt fillet then a gilt rocaille garland. In the center of the plates large gilt shell macaron surrounding the number P. D. All edges gilt. Sent by the translator to Mrs. P. Drouot. Some foxing.
