219. BRUNOT (Ferdinand). History of the French language: from the Origins to our Days. Paris, A. Colin, 1933-19. 21 volumes gd in-8, brown half-chagrin, spines decorated for the first 17 volumes, 1 paperback and 3 other models of bindings Ferdinand Brunot is the author of a voluminous work entitled Histoire de la langue française des origines à 1900 (History of the French language from its origins to 1900), of which nine volumes were published during his lifetime, some of them being in 2, 3 or 4 parts which explains the number of volumes. Volumes x and xi were published posthumously between 1939 and 1979. Then Charles Bruneau continued the enterprise, producing volume xii and beginning volume xiii, published from 1948 to 1972. This university professor was the first holder of a chair in the history of the French language and it was created for him in 1899 at the Sorbonne. This researcher was at the forefront of French linguistic research. In our copy, volume 11 is missing. The binding is homogeneous for the first 17 volumes, (up to and including volume 10 first part).
