246. BOSSHARD (Rodolphe-Théophile, ill.), LOUYS (Pierre). Le - Lot 246
246. BOSSHARD (Rodolphe-Théophile, ill.), LOUYS (Pierre). Le Crépuscule des nymphes. Paris, Ed. Briant-Robert, 1926. Gd in-4, 144 p., [5] f. ill. of 10 lithographs by Bosshard. Bound in vellum à la Bradel. Title and author's name calligraphed in red and black inks on the smooth spine. Case. Edition illustrated with 10 lithographs by Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard (1889-1960). Known in particular for his female nudes, this artist is considered one of the major figures of Swiss painting of the first half of the 20th century. One of 259 copies on arches vellum. Total edition at 300 copies. Copy with 2 letters from Pierre Lous (Wednesday evening and Sunday evening) addressed to Pierre Frondaie, with envelope. Following the letter of Sunday evening, Frondaie writes: "This letter is of a great interest because it is not of the hand of Louys. It is a proof that many autographs supposedly from him are in the hand of his secretary T.S. Compare with the authentic letter above. One can see the difference very well, but the similarity is such -and intended- that it only becomes apparent when the signs are compared". Pierre Frondaie is a French poet, novelist (notably L'Homme à l'Hispano) and playwright. The American studios of Hollywood will produce several adaptations of his novels. In France, Frondaie's talents as a writer were recognized by a large audience, but also by famous authors such as Pierre Lous, Anatole France or Claude Farrère, some of whose works he adapted for the theater. His plays were performed throughout Europe, but also in the United States.
