30. [CHARLES X]. Ceremonial booklet in red morocco with smoo - Lot 30
30. [CHARLES X]. Ceremonial booklet in red morocco with smooth spine, richly decorated with small irons, including the famous iron with bird, and fleurs-de-lys, on the spine and in a gilt frame on the boards, inlayed in the center of both boards of a miniature with the royal arms of Charles X, with the motto rolled up : Ch. Phil. Fils de France Comte d'Artois Colonel General of the Swiss and Grisons, gilt fillet on the edges, gilt roulette inside, blue tabis endpapers and gilt edges. The central medallions are protected by a thin mica leaf. Made for the coronation of Charles X on May 29, 1825, this notebook of blank laid-in leaves seems to have belonged to Joseph André, marquis Doria (1772-1839) naval officer, deputy of Saône-et-Loire (1815-1831) and president of the general council of Saône-et-Loire (1819-1829). Provenance deduced from the presence of the handwritten invitation signed by Charles X (and Jacques-Joseph Guillaume François Pierre, comte de Corbière) to attend the ceremony, which was sent by lithographic reproduction to the presidents of the general councils and to the cut-out piece of the envelope, inserted with the letter, which contains the wax seal and the handwritten mention of the addressee (Monsieur Doria). The bookbinder used an 18th century binding, attributable to Nicolas-Denis Derome, which was rebacked, openworked to include the arms enhanced with gouache, and set with the titles of Charles X. The letter of Charles X was folded and glued on the first leaf but it has detached from it, leaving on the page an end with some characters. Spine superficially cracked, a small repair at the tail (very discreet), a very small lack on the upper spine, the defects are minor, nice condition for this unusual historical souvenir.
