80. LA FONTAINE (Jean de), ADAN (Emile, ill.), BEAUMONT (Edouard de, ill.). Contes de La Fontaine; Fables de La Fontaine. Paris, Jouaust, Librairie des bibliophiles, 1885. 4 vol. in-8, illustrated. Early 20th century Jansenist binding, unsigned, in crushed chagrin, midnight blue, smooth spine titled and tomés, large chagrin return on the counterplates decorated with a fillet, straight and curved dotted lines, a decoration of small irons and small mosaic pieces in red morocco. Gilded head. Edition in large paper limited to 220 copies; one of the 170 on hollande containing 1 state of the 24 hors-texte. The illustrations of the fables were drawn by Adan and engraved by Le Rat. Those of the Contes were drawn by Beaumont and engraved by Boilvin. The work of the Fables is enriched with 2 suites. One with plates by Henri Emile Lefort, Auguste Laguillermie and Charles Courtry. The other suite, on Chine, is composed of twelve engravings, by Girardet, Massard, Devilliers, Duparc, Coiny, Racine after the drawings of Percier which were intended to illustrate the Fables published at the Éditions du Louvre in 1797. These illustrations were banners on a folio edition. This suite may be a 19th century reprint.
