112. MONTPENSIER (Antoine-Philippe d'Orléans, duke of). Memo - Lot 112
112. MONTPENSIER (Antoine-Philippe d'Orléans, duke of). Memoirs of the duke of Montpensier, prince of the blood. Paris, Imprimerie nationale, 1837. In-4 illustrated with a frontispiece portrait. Beautiful period binding, unsigned, in red morocco. Smooth spine decorated. Plates richly decorated. Large garland of sprays, followed by a frame of fillets and floral scrolls with four imposing corner fleurons. In the center, a large diamond-shaped gilt composition with a base of double fillets, ears of corn and gold commas around a central circular fleuron. In these memoirs, Antoine-Philippe d'Orléans (1775-1807), duke of Montpensier and brother of Louis-Philippe, tells of his four years of captivity in the fort of Notre Dame de la Garde in Marseille. "His account is very detailed and gives both a good painting of the revolutionary mores and a political analysis of the main events of the time" (Fierro, n°1070). Bookplate pasted to the reverse of the flyleaf, "Artium genio", which would be the bookplate of François Pouillon, anthropologist and director of studies at the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales. Some foxing. A very light wetness in the margin (of the gutter) of the last 15 leaves, one corner slightly bumped.
