158. [Binding]. Bound in red morocco with fanfare. Office of - Lot 158
158. [Binding]. Bound in red morocco with fanfare. Office of Holy Week. New edition. Paris, A. Dezallier, 1701. In-8, red morocco, important fanfare decoration of ribbons delimiting compartments. These spaces are filled with small curved irons and golden dots. Spine decorated with ribbons, fleurons and fleurs-de-lis. Gilt edges, interior lace. This binding seems to come from a known workshop, conventionally called "Atelier des Caumartin" by R. Esmerian, according to a homogeneous set of bindings that came from it, stamped with the arms of Louis-Urbain Lefèvre, Lord of Caumartin (1653-1720). "R. R. Esmerian has proposed to distinguish two periods in the production of this workshop: around 1652, for a series of small format bindings, then from 1685 to 1701, for bindings combining larger irons to this initial material (except for the iron "à la petite tête"), mainly executed on works of the Holy Week", explains the site dedicated to the bindings of the BNF.
