Paris, P. Billaine, 1636-1637. 2 parts in one vol. in-8, 16 p., 302 p., [8] f.; 182 p. (num. 180), soft vellum, smooth spine and handwritten title. Uncommon first edition of this treatise on alchemy in which Henry de Rochas d'Ayglun, although mainly concerned with describing the qualities of various salts contained in water, does not disdain to make some digressions on the obtaining of gold, the properties of chamois blood, the universal principle residing in all sublunary things and particularly pleasing to gold, etc. Henry de Rochas, Councillor and ordinary physician to King Louis XIII, was also a mining engineer, and as such practiced underground explorations and steep mountain hikes. It is thus often a question of his topographical discoveries. The second part lists concrete cases of healing by the properties of water. Binding damaged with slight loss, worm gallery in inner margin to p. 50 with occasional damage to some characters (not serious), corner of page gnawed in margin of last 60 leaves away from text, passages crossed out without disturbing reading, upper part of title page cut off, handwritten bookplates on title page, other minor defects. (Ferguson, 282; Caillet, 9539; Haag, VIII, 455).
