First edition printed at 10 numbered copies on Japon, this one on Japon but with its numbering space left blank. Nice EAS from the author on the flyleaf, addressed to Dr. Paul Vigne, who later became his biographer. The text by Auguste Lumière (1862-1954) is illustrated with 55 figures in black in the text and in color plates reproducing microphotographs obtained on autochrome plate. Auguste Lumière, very knowledgeable in photography techniques and co-inventor of the cinematograph, was the brother of Louis Lumière. He was also an eminent biologist who had his own laboratories but his theory of colloids, which he defended all his life, did not have the success he had hoped for. Nice copy.
