250 DENIS (Maurice, ill.), LA SERRE (Abbé de). The Book of the Eucharist. Paris, Jacques Beltrand, 1920. In-8, illustrated by Maurice Denis. Signed binding, midnight blue jansenist morocco, spine with four sautéed nerves, titled and name of the illustrator pushed in gold. Terracotta morocco lining, framed by a double fillet with straight or curved sections and mosaics of stylized iris flowers in two shades of mauve with green leaves in the corners, lining of golden silk with gray geometric floral pattern opposite. Double endpapers of handmade marbled paper, gilt edges, cover and lined case (Marius Michel), binding signed by Marius Michel. Rare edition printed at 130 copies by the Imprimerie Nationale, illustrated with 13 full-page figures and stylized frames in colors by Maurice Denis, and a suite, woodcut by Jacques Beltrand assisted by his brothers Camille and Georges. Numbered copy printed for Eugène Raguet. Mostly known for his work as an architect and sculptor, Raguet was also an active member of the committee of the Union Française de la Jeunesse for which he taught voluntarily for many years.
