255. LAPRADE (Pierre, ill.), LA FONTAINE (Jean de). The loves of Psyche & Cupid. Paris, Desoer, 1926. In-4, x, [2] f., 161, [2] f., illustrated with 38 etchings. Signed half navy blue morocco binding with corners, spine with four sautéed nerves very decorated with dotted fillets and fleurons, titled and dated on the tail. Three mosaic red morocco lozenges decorate the spine, the largest is stamped in gold with an iron representing Cupid, the other two with an iron combining bow, arrows and quiver, gilt head, witnesses preserved for the other edges, cover cons. (Charles Septier). Signed binding by Charles Septier. Total edition of 360 copies, one of 300 on vellum of the Marais.
Provenance: Robert Beauvillain, famous bibliophile who had assembled a prestigious collection of which many works were bound by Septier. This is evidenced by the presence of his ex-libris glued on a white sheet, made and engraved by Charles Jouas. A knight prostrates himself before a beautiful naked woman, sitting on a pile of books. The legend says: And Beauvillain? He still loves you.
