324. BRAQUEHAYE (Charles). The Artists of the Duke of Eperno - Lot 324
324. BRAQUEHAYE (Charles). The Artists of the Duke of Epernon. Bordeaux, Féret, 1888. In-8, 258 p., 49 p. (Uncommon first edition of this important monograph by Charles Braquehaye (1839-1907) published as the first volume of the series on documents on the history of the arts in Guienne. The building and embellishment of the Château de Cadillac required the assistance of many artists, of whom Charles Braquehaye is trying to find traces, notably through tenacious work in the departmental archives. The sculptor and art historian thus invalidates certain hypotheses, resurrects the magnificence of the château and, above all, draws up the biographies of little-known artists. The text is illustrated with 25 hors-texte plates. Provenance: copy of the library of Aurélien Vivie (1827-1903) attested by an ex-bibliotheca pasted to the back cover. Corners dulled, obituary pasted to the reverse of the cover, tear without lack to the false title, minor defects.
