Paris, C. Angot, 1668. In-4, 303 p., [23] f., 127 p. (including clean title page for the mechanics), [1] p., fawn half-basin with ornate smooth spine (19th century binding).
Third edition containing, for the first time, treatises on mechanics and music; the text is illustrated with numerous woodcuts.
Page 126 is numbered 26, page 265 is numbered 263, resulting in an offset, and page 301 is numbered 300, which differs from the pagination errors noted by Guibert and attests to several printings.
Numerous handwritten marginal notes in pencil or ink, some of them considerable, and predating the binding, probably from the 18th century, comment on and correct Descartes. They testify to a remarkably broad knowledge of the fields of science explored by Descartes, and we regret that the author remained anonymous.
Spine leather damaged, some leaves browned.
(Guibert, 19).
